The Dark and Stormy

April 19 2017

The classic Dark and Stormy cocktail is a summertime staple first created by the British Navy in Bermuda more than a century ago. The name comes from the color of a cloud that only a mad sailor would dare sail under. So grab your glass, the ingredients below and be thankful you’re only stranded in your backyard and not the stormy seas.

The original recipe hasn’t changed over the years, combining dark rum, ginger beer and lime juice for a light and slightly tart taste. We suggest adding a few dashes of Aromatic Bitters for added flavor. Shake 2 oz of Dark Rum, 3 oz of Ginger Beer and juice from a freshly squeezed lime before pouring over ice. Our only other tip is to avoid the use of bottled lime or lemon juice as they often have preservatives that alter the taste, and obviously aren’t as fresh. Enjoy!
